Taking Flight
Voguish and distinctly feminine, this is one exciting emerging category. Cristalino is making an entrance to the Tequila world and gaining recognition from the CRT (Tequila Regulatory Council), set to become the 5th officially registered category. The first commercially available Cristalino, Don Julio 70 entered the market late 2011.
The idea was to retain the reductive benefits of barrel-aging while minimizing the heavy wood it often imparts, restoring crisp agave, and dominant Blanco notes. The charcoal filtration process removes the colour, and while this was merely a side effect, it’s definitely on trend with the current notion of the clear liquid representing a pure & healthier option.
